Report: Florida DT Dominique Easley Could Go In First Round

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is hearing that two “top scouts” believe that Florida DT Dominique Easley could be selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft despite his extensive injury history.

  • Rapoport adds that he could see the Patriots addressing their defensive line issues with Easley.

Easley has torn both ACL’s in non-contact injuries- the left one in 2011 and the right one last September.  He has declared himself healthy, though there are obvious red flags.

He has not played much football in the last few years, but when he’s made it on the field he is an impact player.  Easley is undersized, but has that rare ability to generate pressure up the middle.  He is explosive off the snap and can be highly disruptive.

Most pundits have pegged Easley as a second day pick.  Any team considering him in round 1 would have to be  very comfortable with his medical evaluations.

We have Easley going in the second round to Arizona in our 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
