Report: Former Broncos DE Robert Ayers Visited With Giants

Howard Balzer of LockerDome.com reports that free agent DE Robert Ayers visited the New York Giants.

Ayers, 28, was taken with the No. 18 overall pick by the Broncos back during theĀ 2009 NFL Draft. While he has yet to develop into top-tier defensive end for the Broncos, he is coming off of a decent 2013 season.

Last year, he appeared in 15 games for the Broncos and totaledĀ 29 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and a forced fumble.

New York is thin at the defensive end position, particularly after the departure of DE Justin TuckĀ who signed with the Oakland Raiders. Ayers could offer them some depth at defensive end, especially as a run-defender.

Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 14 defensive end in 4-3 system last year while being a very effective run-stopper.

We have Ayers rated No. 4Ā in our Top 50 Best Available Free Agents.
