Report: Steelers Hiring Mike Munchak As OL Coach

Update:

John McClain reports that former Titans HC Mike Munchak will join the Steelers coaching staff as their new offensive line coach.

Munchak was also being considered for same position with the Houston Texans, but he instead elected to return to Pennsylvania where he grew up.

Munchak actually interviewed for the Lions and Browns head coaching vacancies, so this is a pretty good hire for Mike Tolmin and company.

Jason La Canfora reports that former Titans HC Mike Munchak will soon meet with the Steelers regarding their OL coach position.

  • La Canfora adds that the meeting could take place at this year’s Senior Bowl.

Since being fired by the Titans, Munchak has found a decent amount of interest and even interviewed for the Browns and Lions head coaching positions. Reports indicated that Munchak had an outstanding interview with Detroit before they elected to hire Jim Caldwell as their head coach.

John McClain previously reported that Munchak was expected to interview with the Texans regarding their vacant offensive line coach position as well.

Munchak took over for long-time HC Jeff Fisher who was fired in 2011. In three seasons with the team, Munchak led the Titans to a record of 22-26 (.458). According to ESPN Stats & Info, Munchak has a 2-20 record against teams with a winning record.
