Report: Andre Johnson Wants To Be Traded, Four Teams Have Expressed Interest

 

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports Texans WR Andre Johnson wants to play for a new team, but Houston is reportedly resisting his demands.

• According to Rapoport, four NFL teams have expressed interest in trading for Johnson.
• As things stand right now, Johnson is working out and “not thinking of the Texans,” according to Rapoport’s source.

Rapoport adds that Johnson’s absence from the team is related to a “standoff” involving a $1 million workout bonus. He is hoping to earn it back, despite missing some time, but the team has reportedly told him that they won’t be offering him the money.

Johnson has already reworked his contract multiple times, so he is hoping for the same goodwill from the Texans.

While appearing on the NFL Network, Johnson was asked if he be in a Texans uniform for the start of the regular season to which Johnson replied: “I don’t know. I can’t answer that question.”

His salary limits the number of teams that could actually afford to take on his contract. Most of the teams with a lot of space are currently in the rebuilding process while only a few contenders could actually afford to bring him in.

As of now, that list includes the Bengals, Eagles, Packers, and Colts as the only teams who could currently take on his contract and possibly give him a chance to compete for a title. However, you could make the case that these teams are set at receiver.

Johnson, soon to be 33, still has three years remaining on his seven-year, $62.7 million contract. He’s set to make $6.5 million for the 2014 season before his base salary increases to $10.5 million in 2015.

In 2013, Johnson caught 109 passes for 1,407 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
