Report: Eagles To Sign Frank Gore

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Adam Caplan are reporting that veteran RB Frank Gore has been telling people that he will sign with the Eagles this week.

  • Schefter adds that Gore is expected to sign a three-year contract that will pay him $7.5 million in the first two years.
  • Rand Getlin reports that Gore is likely to make an average salary of roughly $5 million per year and $7 million guaranteed in this contract.

According to the report, Gore’s final pricetag is still being negotiated, but is expected to be half as much as what LeSean McCoy was making. Philadelphia is planning to make Gore their starting running back.

Recent reports have the 49ers were expecting to lose Gore and had already begun the process of looking around at other running backs.

It’s interesting that the Eagles elected to trade away LeSean McCoy and bring in another running back over 30 years old. Philadelphia freed up a lot of cap space by moving McCoy, so it will be interesting to see what they do in free agency.

Gore, 31, played out his three-year, $19,212,550 contract with the 49ers, which included $13.5 million guaranteed.

In 2014, he ran for 1,106 yards on 255 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with 11 receptions for 111 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has Gore rated as the No. 26 running back out of 57 qualifying players.

We had Gore listed as the No. 37 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
