Free Agents DE Da’Quan Bowers & TE Chase Coffman Trying Out For Saints

Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports that free agents DE Da’Quan Bowers and TE Chase Coffman will both try out for the Saints this weekend during the team’s rookie minicamp.

  • Jayson Braddock of ESPN 97.5 Houston first reported that Bowers was visiting with the Saints this week.
  • Braddock previously mentioned that Bowers had interest from the Lions and Dolphins, so it appears as though his market could be picking up now that signing veterans no longer counts against compensatory picks

There hasn’t been any reported interest in Bowers since free agency got underway close to two months ago.

Bowers, 25, has been a major disappointment ever since the Buccaneers used a second-round pick on him back in 2010. He has missed nine games in the past two years with injuries and has been largely ineffective when healthy.

On top of that, the NFL suspended Bowers two games for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

In 2014, Bowers appeared in 11 games and recorded 21 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass defense for the Buccaneers.

Coffman, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Bengals. He lasted a little over three years in Cincinnati before he later caught on with Falcons in 2012.

Coffman spent two years with the Falcons before he later signed on with the Titans as an unrestricted free agent in August of last year.

In 2014, Coffman appeared in 13 games and recorded six receptions for 64 yards receiving and one touchdown for the Titans.

  1. Man, I sure missed BIGTIME on this guy, I thought for sure he was going to be something special. He’s still just 25 but looks like I was terribly wrong about him.

  2. You can put that guy in the Stanley Jean Babtiste stack. Both major disappointments. Well, at least Bowers has played some……
