Report: Free Agent DE Robert Ayers Visiting With Bengals, Giants May Have Interest

Mike Garafolo reports that Broncos free agent DE Robert Ayers will be visiting with the Bengals on Wednesday.

  • Ralph Vacchiano mentions that the New York Giants also have shown “some interest” in Ayers.

Ayers, 28, was taken with the No. 18 overall pick by the Broncos back during the 2009 NFL Draft. While he has yet to develop into top-tier defensive end for the Broncos, he is coming off of a decent 2013 season.

Last year, he appeared in 15 games for the Broncos and totaled 29 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 14 defensive end in 4-3 system last year while being a very effective run-stopper.

The Cowboys are believed to have interest in Ayers as well, although they have yet to schedule a visit.

Cincinnati lost starting defensive end Michael Johnson to the Buccaneers and while Ayers isn’t a similar talent, he could at least given them some depth upfront.

We have him listed as the No. 20 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
