Report: Free Agent DT Kevin Williams Visiting Patriots Thursday

Tom Curran of CSN New England reports that free agent DT Kevin Williams is visiting with the Patriots on Thursday.

This comes just a few days after he told Tom Pelissero of USA Today that he felt like he would be a good fit the Patriots.

“Well, give them a call,” Williams said of possibly joining the Patriots. “Tell them to look me up.”

Williams added that he was still weighing his options and was hoping to be on a roster by August.

I’m still weighing my options, man,” said Williams. “Hopefully, I’ll be on somebody’s team in August and go from there.”

Williams has worked out for the Seahawks and Giants since free agency got underway back in March, but it appears as though these teams offering close to the veteran’s minimum for his services.

Pelissero notes that the minimum base salary for players with 10 or more credited seasons, which Williams obviously has, is $955,000.

However, in the event he doesn’t get a worthwhile offer, he would be willing to call it career.

I’ve done well managing my money. I think I’d be fine if I don’t play,” Williams said. “But that’s my hope – I hope to be on somebody’s team before summer’s out.”

Williams, 34, has spent eleven seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, and was considered one of the best interior lineman in the league for a large potion of his career.

In 2013, he totaled 28 tackles, 3.5 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. Pro Football Focus rated Williams as the No. 27 interior defensive linemen in the league.

We have him listed as the No. 3 player in our recently updated Top 50 – Best Available Free Agents list.
