Giants Bring In Free Agent S Kerry Rhodes For A Workout

Update:

Pro Football Talk reported over the weekend that the Giants were expected to “kick the tires” on free agent S Kerry Rhodes this week.

Rhodes, 31, actually put together a very solid season for the Cardinals last year and there are a number of teams that could use some help at safety. Last year, Rhodes tallied 67 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and four interceptions and was rated as the No. 4 safety in the league by Pro Football Focus.

Mike Jurecki reports that the Arizona Cardinals offered free agent S Kerry Rhodes a one-year deal worth $3 million, but Rhodes ultimately turned it down.

There has been some speculation that Rhodes could be getting “blackballed” by NFL teams after rumors surfaced of him possibly being gay this offseason. If Jurecki’s report is accurate, it appears as though Rhodes is only willing to play for a certain amount.

Mike Florio Pro Football Talk reports that free agent S Kerry Rhodes hasn’t generated any buzz at all in recent weeks, despite the fact that NFL teams have been working out defensive backs.

This comes just a day after Deadspin’s Drew Magary cited Florio as a source in an article that mentioned that Rhodes could be getting blackballed by NFL teams after rumors surfaced of him possibly being gay this offseason.

It’s not like he’s over the hill or coming off of a downswing in terms of production or anything. Rhodes could probably help a number of teams and would most likely require only a minimum salary.
