ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the New York Giants and free-agent LB Jon Beason are involved in “heated discussions.”
- Kimberly Jones reports that the two sides are “close” to agreement, but nothing final yet.
- Jones adds that the Giants are the “favorites” to sign Beason.
- According to the Denver Post, the Broncos have interest in Beason.
- The Post also mentions that the Broncos are considering Ravens ILB Daryl Smith as well.
Beason has made the decision to represent himself in negotiations, rather than hire an agent, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out for him.
Beason, 28, came over from Carolina after a mid-season trade sent him to New York for an undisclosed 2014 late-round pick. He finished the season with 104 tackles and an interception.
We have him listed as the No. 63 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
Raanan adds that there is a “strong chance” that a deal will get done in the coming weeks. However, the two sides are reportedly trying to find middle ground in contract talks as of now.
Beason has said that he would like to be back in New York next season, so it appears as though there is enough motivation to get something finalized in the coming days.
