Report: Giants & Jets Have Only “Marginal” Interest In Ndamukong Suh

Mike Freeman of the Bleacher Report has spoken to sources with ties to the Giants and Jets regarding a report from Adam Schefter last week that mentioned Lions DT Ndamukong Suh is interested in playing for one of them next year.

According to Freeman’s sources, the two teams have “marginal” interest in Suh at this point in time and this is probably Suh’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, trying to scare the Lions.

Schefter mentioned that the Lions and Suh are “preparing to go separate ways” after 2014 and Suh would prefer to play in a big market like New York, which would allow him to expand his brand.

However, Freeman’s sources believe Suh would likely ask too much in terms of salary for the Jets and Giants to be serious suitors next year. Freeman does agree that this appears to be Suh’s final season in Detroit.

Lions president Tom Lewand has said that they have tabled contract talks with Suh until after the 2014 season, but Detroit is in a difficult position regarding Suh given that using the franchise tag on him would create a cap figure of over $36 million next season.

Should Suh reach free agency, he would have no shortage of suitors and the bidding could produce some massive figures.

Suh, 27, entering the final year of his rookie deal and is in a great position to secure a huge contract extension that will once again set the bar even higher for the defensive tackle position. Suh stands to make $11.55 million for the 2014 season and has a massive cap figure of $22.4 million.

This season, Suh has recorded nine tackles and a sack. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6 defensive tackle in the league.
