Report: Giants RB David Wilson Will Not Need Surgery, Expected Too Miss 3-4 Weeks

Update:

Mike Garafolo reports that Dr. Robert Watkins did not recommend surgery for Giants RB David Wilson.

  • Garafolo adds that Wilson is still likely to miss a few weeks, but will return at some point this season.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that is expected to miss about 3-4 weeks.

This great news for Wilson in the long-run considering that spinal stenosis is a very serious injury that has forced players such as Michael Irvin into retirement.

The Giants will have to rely on Michael Cox and Brandon Jacobs until Andre Brown is back from his leg injury.

Giants RB David Wilson told reporters on Friday that doctors believe he has spinal stenosis and could be done for the season, per Ralph Vacchiano.

  • Wilson added that the “best-case scenario I’ll be back on the field (next Monday) to play the Minnesota Vikings.”
  • That’s not the way it was presented to me,” HC Tom Coughlin mentioned said, via Conor Orr.

“Best case, I’ll be back after the second opinion,” Wilson said, via the New York Daily News. “That’s what I’m hoping and praying for because I feel perfectly fine. It really doesn’t make sense to me right now. People say, “Oh, but it’s the neck.” But I feel like I’m fine. I’m willing to go out there and sacrifice and play with my team. This is what I love. That’s my choice.”

While it’s at least somewhat of a positive sign that Wilson believes he still has a shot to play in Week 7, it’s more likely that he will be miss at least a few weeks.

We’ll have more regarding Wilson’s condition as the news is available.

According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, an NFL source mentioned that Giants RB David Wilson‘s neck injury “could end his season and might necessitate surgery.

Schwartz adds that Wilson is dealing with an issue involving a disc in his neck. Wilson is expected to get a second opinion some time next week when he meets with neck specialist Dr. Robert Watkins.

While this is quite concerning news, a separate source who spoke with Schwartz insisted that it’s too early to tell how long Wilson will be out.

“I don’t see that, I’m not hearing that,’’ and the source. “We’re a long way from that. It is premature at this point to make any declarations.’’

The Giants have already ruled Wilson out of the team’s Week 6 game against the Bears, but Wilson was able to attend Tuesday’s practice.

Neck injuries are always big concerns, so we’ll have to see how things go with his second opinion next week before we have a better idea of his timetable.

The New York Giants have officially ruled out RB David Wilson for Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Bears, per Dan Graziano.

Mike Garafolo reports that Giants RB David Wilson will get a second opinion on his neck injury sometime this week.

  • Garafolo adds that there’s currently no timetable for Wilson’s return and this could end up being a “multi-week injury.

Wilson was held out of Giants practice Monday and reports from earlier in the day suggested that he is dealing with “some kind of a tingling” in his neck.

New York re-signed Da’Rel Scott on Monday to add some depth as they head into a short week to prepare for Thursday’s game against the Bears. It’s a safe assumption that Wilson will not play in Week 6.
