Report: Giants Release RB Ahmad Bradshaw & DT Chris Canty

Pro Football Talk is reporting that a source with knowledge of the situation has informed them that the Giants will release RB Ahmad Bradshaw.

Multiple sources have since confirmed that Bradshaw was brought in and informed of his release on Wednesday.

Jenny Vrentas reports that the Giants have also released DT Chris Canty.

Bradshaw, 26, was set to $3.75 million in 2013 and was under contract through the 2014 season.

Pro Football Focus had Bradshaw rated as the No. 6 best running back in the league, so this move comes as a bit of a surprise. He has had multiple surgeries on his foot, which will be an obvious concern for NFL teams that are considering bringing him in. It’s also a clear indication that they’re comfortable moving forward with David Wilson and Andre Brown.

Canty, 30, was set to make $6.25 million for the 2013 season. He signed a six-year, $42 million contract back in 2009 and was rated as the No. 19 best defensive tackle by PFF, mainly due to his ability to play the run. He could draw interest from either 4-3 or 3-4 defensive teams due to the fact that he has experience in both.

These moves will create $13.75 million in cap space for the Giants, according to Brian McIntyre.

The Giants also announced that they’ve waived DT Martin Parker, per Adam Caplan.

There were rumors that big changes were coming for the Giants this week and Mike Garafolo adds that he expects to see more cuts made by the team in the near future.
