Giants Officially Sign CFL OL Brett Jones

Update:

The Giants officially announced the signing of CFL OL Brett Jones on Thursday.

It has always been a goal and a dream of mine to play in the NFL,” Jones said. “This is the first step, and I look forward to taking many more.

“When I was in university in Canada, my goal was always to try to play in the NFL.  As a kid growing up playing games like Madden, it definitely was an influence. Some of the players on my team (in the video game) that I played with, they play in the NFL now. I always thought that I wanted to earn a chance.

Chris Cuthbert of TSN is “hearing” that CFL OL Brett Jones will be signing with the New York Giants.

Scott Mitchell of The Calgary Sun previously reported that Jones had found interest from the Cardinals, Buccaneers, Giants, Eagles, Steelers, Chargers, and Packers.

Jones, 23, was selected in the second round of 2013 CFL draft by the Calgary Stampeders. In just two years with the Stampeders, Jones has won CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie Award (2013) and the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award (2014).

Jones has started 35 regular-season games and played an important role in a Stampeders’ offensive line that allowed a league-low 26 sacks in 2014.

The Giants could use some additional offensive line help, but he’ll really need a strong performance in training camp to crack the team’s 53-man roster.

We’ll have more regarding Jones and the Giants as news is available.
