Report: Giants Will Release RB Brandon Jacobs

Update: It’s official. The Giants have parted ways with Jacobs.

———————————————–

Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger reports that the New York Giants will release RB Brandon Jacobs later today after the two sides were unable to reach a deal that would have restructured Jacobs contract for the second straight season.

Jacobs,29, was rumored to be a cap-casualty as early as a few months ago so the move comes as little surprise. He was set to make $4.4 million for the 2012 season along with a roster bonus of $500,000 that was due in the coming days. Pro Football Focus rated Jacobs as the #33 best running back in the league last season which is better than I would have assumed. It will be interesting to see what kind of market develops for Jacobs as he’s only effective in certain situations.
