Report: Haloti Ngata Declined A “Lucrative” Extension From The Ravens This Offseason

Albert Breer of the NFL Network reports that the Ravens offered NT Haloti Ngata a “lucrative long-term” extension this offseason.

  • However, the two sides were unable to reach an agreement, according to Breer.
  • Breer adds that the Ravens were offering Ngata a similar contract to the one signed by OLB Terrell Suggs this offseason.
  • Aaron Wilson confirms the news and adds that the numbers being discussed were “unrealistic.”

Ngata, 30, carries a staggering $16 million cap figure for the 2014 season, so it’s not surprising that the Ravens would try to reduce that number while keeping him under team control for the foreseeable future.

He has two years remaining on his five-year, $61 million contract that includes base salaries of $8.5 million annually.

Ngata has consistently been one of the best interior defensive linemen in the league for a number of years now. Although he started showing some signs of decline in 2013 as he produced a career low 1.5 sacks for the Ravens defense.

Pro Football Focus still had him rated as the No. 18 interior defensive lineman this past season.
