Report: Jaguars Have No Plans To Release WR Justin Blackmon

ESPN’s Ed Werder, citing league sources, reports that the Jaguars intend to keep WR Justin Blackmon when he is reinstated from the indefinite suspension imposed by the NFL, rather than release him in the interim.

  • Werder adds that the Jaguars do not know when — if ever — Blackmon will be reinstated, but they do not expect it to happen this year.

Blackmon was suspended for multiple violations of the league’s substance abuse policy.

This news comes as a small surprise, as Jacksonville could release Blackmon during the suspension, much like the Giants did with S Will Hill.  Blackmon still has two years left on his contract, but the Jaguars are not on the hook for his salary during the suspension.

Jacksonville appears to have moved on from Blackmon, spending two draft picks this year on USC WR Marquise Lee and Penn State WR Allen Robinson.  As things stand right now, it looks like the Jaguars intend to treat Blackmon as a luxury.

Blackmon appeared in only four games last season, registering 29 catches for 415 yards, with one touchdown.
