Mike Kaye of First Coast News, citing a league source, reports that the Jaguars have received trade interest from teams other than the Dolphins in TE Julius Thomas.
Reports have said that Thomas could be part of a trade with the Dolphins that would swap him for LT Branden Albert, who could be traded to the Jaguars even if Thomas isn’t part of the deal. According to Kaye, it’s still possible that Thomas could be included in this trade.
Although, others have mentioned that his contract is likely the hold up with him being part of this deal. The expectation is that Miami would want him to agree to some sort of a pay cut upon reaching a trade agreement.
Thomas, 28, is a former fourth-round pick by the Broncos in the 2011 NFL Draft. He is entering the third year of his five-year, $46 million contract that included $24 million guaranteed.
According to OverTheCap.com, trading Thomas would free up $4.7 million of available cap space while creating $3.6 million in dead money.
In 2016, Thomas appeared in nine games for the Jaguars and recorded 30 receptions for 281 yards receiving and four touchdowns. ProFootballFocus has him rated as the No. 28 overall tight end out of 63 qualifying players.
