Update: Jermichael Finley Meeting With Packers “A Formality”

Update:

Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports that free agent TE Jermichael Finley’s Wednesday meeting with the Packers is just “a formality.”

“It’s a formality, no testing,” Demovsky’s source said. “Nothing more, nothing less.”

According to Demovsky, Finley had plans to travel to Green Bay with his family, and check in with Packers team doctor Dr. Pat McKenzie and the team’s medical staff because he has not seen them recently.

Finley has yet to receive medical clearance following a fusion surgery he underwent last year.

Green Bay drafted Richard Rodgers and signed former Oregon TE Colt Lyerla to bring to offseason workouts, so they are clearly focused on improving the level of competition at the tight end position ahead of training camp.

Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that free agent TE Jermichael Finley will be in Green Bay on Wednesday undergoing tests on his neck for the Packers’ medical staff.

There appears to be at least a chance that Finley could be back in Green Bay next season, despite the fact that he has yet to receive clearance following an injury to his neck that required a fusion surgery.

Finley mentioned last week that he received “awesome news” and was preparing for a “major comeback,” but no reports surfaced of him receiving clearance in the days after.

The Packers have said that they would like to bring Finley back if he was healthy and medically cleared to play next season, so we’ll have to see how things go on Wednesday.
