Report: Jets Expected To Release WR Santonio Holmes In The Coming Days

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the Jets will soon be releasing veteran WR Santonio Holmes.

  • Ian Rapoport confirms that the expectation is that Holmes will soon be released as there has be no talk of a potential pay cut.

The Jets have widely been expected to part ways with Holmes this offseason, so it’s not at all surprising to hear that this move could come in the next few days.

Holmes, 29, still has two years remaining on his five-year, $45.25 million contract that included $24 million guaranteed. He has a base salary of $8.25 million for the 2014 season to go along with a $1 million roster bonus and a cap figure of $10.75 million.

Releasing him would free up $8.25 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com.

Last year, Holmes caught 23 passes for 456 yards receiving and a touchdown over the course of 11 games.
