Report: Jets Expected To Be A “Major Player” For Darrelle Revis If He’s Available

According to Jason Cole of the Bleacher Report, the Jets are expected to be a “major player” for CB Darrelle Revis if the Patriots pass on his $20 million option in the next few weeks.

Cole mentions that Revis “loves” playing in New York and would seriously consider a reunion with the Jets. The Bills are expected to have serious interest in Revis as well, given that Rex Ryan is a huge fan of the Pro Bowl cornerback.

Cole adds that the question for Revis is likely to come down to whether he wants to secure the best contract he can get, or return to the Patriots and try to make another Super Bowl run.

The Patriots are reportedly interested in retaining Revis, but some around the league believe his option will be too costly for them to pick up.

New England could always work out a long-term contract with Revis over the next few weeks, but there is no question that it’s going to take a serious commitment to prevent him from at least testing the open market this March.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk recently reported that the Patriots and Revis have yet to begin the process of discussing a long-term contract extension.

According to Florio, there will likely be a number of teams interested in speaking to to him including the Jets, Bills, Chiefs, and Browns.

Revis, 29, has put together an impressive first year in New England, which could result in another impressive contract for the six-time Pro Bowler.

According to OverTheCap.com, the Patriots will have until the final day of the 2014 league year to exercise his option.

In 2014, Revis recorded 47 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, a recovery and 14 pass defenses over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has Revis rated as the No. 4 cornerback out of 108 qualifying players.
