Report: Jets Finalizing Deal To Hire Mike Maccagnan As GM

Update:

Rich Cimini of ESPN reports that the Jets are expected to finalize an agreement with Texans college scouting director Mike Maccagnan to be their next general manager as soon as today.

Maccagnan met with the Jets on Friday for a second interview and has remained in New Jersey since to work on plans with team officials.

Sources tell Cimini that the Jets want Seahawks DC Dan Quinnbadly,” and were prepared to fly to Seattle if they lost their divisional playoff game to the Panthers.

However, Quinn has a ton of interest from other teams, so there could be competition for his services.

It’s worth mentioning that Cardinals DC Todd Bowles is also a candidate for the job.

Cimini adds that the Jets would like to have a new general manager in place this week.

Ian Rapoport reports that the Jets are expected to hire Texans college scouting director Mike Maccagnan as their next general manager.

  • Rapoport adds that Maccagnan has been in town meeting with the Jets for the past three days.

This fits with recent reports that have said Maccagnan is considered the favorite to get the job after he impressed consultants Ron Wolf and Charlie Casserly during his interviews.

Brian Costello spoke to a league source who mentioned that Maccagnan is a “very thorough, competent person who will be able to work well with a head coach and others in the organization.”

Maccagnan is the only candidate who has scheduled a second interview with the team,

It’s worth mentioning that Maccagnan has ties to a few of the team’s head-coaching candidates such as Doug Marrone and Gary Kubiak.

Other candidates for the positioned GM position include: Seahawks pro personnel director Trent Kirchner, Eagles pro personnel director Rick Meuller, Jets senior director of football administration Rod Graves, Browns executive chief of staff Bill Kuharich, and Buccaneers executive Jon Robinson.

We’ll have more regarding Maccagnan and the Jets as the news is available.
