Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets fear C Nick Mangold sustained a fractured fibula during Sunday’s game against the Patriots.

There was some hope that Mangold suffered only an ankle sprain, but it appears to be much more severe than that.

Former NFL Physician David Chao mentioned that this would be the worst-case scenario for Mangold and the Jets as it would require surgery.

Mangold, 30, is in the fifth year of his eight-year, $57.4 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed. He has base salaries of $4.8 million, $5.6 million and $6.075 million coming his way over the remainder of the agreement to go along with reporting bonuses that are worth nearly $7 million.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 center in the league by a wide margin.

We’ll have more updates as the news is available.
