Report: Buccaneers May Hold Off On A Darrelle Revis Trade & Consider FA Options At CB

Update:

Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune writs that the Jets would most likely need to reduce their asking price for CB Darrelle Revis while offering some sort of assurance that his torn ACL is healing properly before a trade could be agreed to.

Cummings adds that Tampa Bay will probably wait another few weeks before deciding on whether or not pursue Revis.

In the time being, the Bucs could continue to monitor the cornerback market for alternative options that won’t require draft compensation.

Tampa Bay is reportedly interested in re-signing CB E.J. Biggers and they could always consider guys like Brent Grimes, Antonio Winfield, Nnamdi Asomugha and possibly even Adam Jones as cheaper options.

Update:

Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports reports that the hangup regarding a trade for Jets CB Darrelle Revis is related to the Buccaneers unwillingness to surrender their 2013 first-round pick.

The Bucs would prefer to include a 2013 second-round pick or a 2014 first-round pick for Revis, but Cole adds that the Buccaneers management remains “fully on board” with the idea to trade for Revis.

The addition of Revis would give Tampa Bay one of the best secondaries in the league after the recent addition of Dashon Goldson to go along with 2012 first-round pick Mark Barron.

Update

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York has confirmed with league sources that the Buccaneers are one of at least two teams that are engaged in trade talks with the Jets for cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Cimini writes that it remains unclear whether or not the discussions are serious, but at this point in time, “no trade appears imminent.

Revis has a $1 million bonus coming his way this weekend, which could incentive them to hammer out a deal in the next few days. On top of that, the market for cornerbacks is off to a slow start, so it’s not as though teams have already filled their cornerback needs in free agency.

Update:

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the Jets have a “serious trade partner” in the Buccaneers for cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum mentioned that Revis could command a similar package of draft picks as the Vikings received for Percy Harvin, but Florio doesn’t see that happening.

Instead, Florio believed the Jets are more likely to get a second-round pick this year or possibly a first-rounder in 2014 for Revis.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that a league source has informed him that the Jets currently have a “good” offer on the table for CB Darrelle Revis.

Florio’s source adds that the deal is not only a quality offer in terms of compensation, but also includes “the financial package that would be extended to Revis.”

A separate source mentioned that Jets have yet to communicate to Revis’ reps that they have such an offer.

New York hasn’t met with Revis or even given his agent the permission to seek a trade of his own. This could obviously chance in the next few days.

It’s actually in the best interest of the Jets to try to move Revis now versus waiting until teams fill their cornerback needs with a very deep free agent class. The 49ers and Falcons have been mentioned as speculative landing spots, but neither team appears to have serious interest at this point in time.
