Report: Jets HC Rex Ryan Expects To Be Fired After The Season

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that Jets head coach Rex Ryan told his players in a team meeting Saturday night that he expects to be fired once the current season has concluded.

Ryan reportedly asked them “to fight for him” in the final two games of the season against the Browns and Dolphins.

If fired, Ryan would likely become a popular name following “Black Monday.” The only question is whether he would generate interest as a head coach or as a defensive coordinator. NFL teams have shown a preference for offensive-minded head coaches in recent years, which could work against Ryan should be he become available. As a defensive coordinator, Ryan would certainly find plenty of interest.

Jets GM John Idzik would finally get his pick for a head coach if they do part with Ryan, and a popular candidate would be Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell given that he spent time with Idzik in Seattle. Chargers’ OC Ken Whisenhunt could also be someone to watch.
