“Strong Sense” Among NFL Teams That Antonio Cromartie Is Signing With Jets

Update:

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports mentions that there is a “strong sense” among other teams monitoring CB Antonio Cromartie‘s market that he will end up signing with the Jets.

  • La Canfora adds that anything else would be a surprise at this point in time.

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the Jets believe they’ll be able to get a deal in place with free agent Antonio Cromartie at some point in the near future.

  • Robinson adds that “it’s going to get done,” but the two sides are still working out the final details of the agreement.

———-

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports the Jets are the “clear leader” to sign free agent CB Antonio Cromartie, and the expectation is he signs there.

  • According to Rapoport, newly signed CB Darrelle Revis has been recruiting him to return to New York.

Brian Costello reports that free agent Antonio Cromartie is expected to make a decision between either signing with the Jets or the Cardinals at some point on Wednesday.

———-

Seth Walder of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets are in “serious discussions” with free agent Antonio Cromartie.

  • Yesterday, Cromartie told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith that he was down to the Cowboys, Jets and Cardinals as potential destinations, via Darren Urban.

This comes after the fact that the Jets have already signed CBs Darrelle Revis and Buster Skrine, so this shows that they are clearly focused on building the best secondary they possibly can in free agency.

Cromartie, 30, signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract that included $3.25 million in fully guaranteed with the Cardinals last year.

In 2014, Cromartie recorded three interceptions, 10 pass deflections, and 48 tackles. Pro Football Focus rated Cromartie as the No. 45 overall cornerback out of 108 qualifiers last season.

We have Cromartie currently rated as the No. 43 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
