  • Brian Costello of the New York Post reports that the Jets can opt out of Ryan’s contract it without much difficulty after the 2015 season.

Towards the end of the season, there was some question as to whether or not Ryan would be retain for another year, but team owner Woody Johnson announced that they were sticking with Rex. The Jets elected to give Ryan a one-year extension that kept him under contract through the 2015 season at $3.3 million.

It now appears as though the Jets have made the determination that Rex will be their coach long-term, despite some of the struggles that the team has gone through in recent years.

Ryan is still regarded as one of the best coaches in the league and would almost certainly find another opportunity if he were to become available. Woody Johnson is a big Rex supporter, so it’s not exactly shocking to them commit to him long-term.
