Report: Jets Sign QB Matt Simms To A One-Year Extension

Seth Walder of the New York Daily News reports that the New York Jets have renegotiated QB Matt Simmscontract, which will now keep him under team control through the 2014 season.

Simms, 25, was set to become a free agent this offseason, but now will make $495,000 next year. Keeping Simms looks to be another indication that QB Mark Sanchez is likely to be released at some point in the near future.

Geno Smith is the clear favorite to start the 2014 season as the team’s No. 1 quarterback, but there is still a chance that New York will add another quarterback at some point.

“We’ll look at quarterbacks, yes we’ll look at quarterbacks,” GM John Idzik admitted during the team’s end-of-season press conference.

    • Correct, McElroy signed a future/reserve contract with CIN. I apologize for the embarrassing mistake, but thank you for pointing out the error. I really do appreciate it.
