Update:

John Bacon is reporting that Jim Harbaugh to the University of Michigan is a done deal and his friends will be flying in on Monday.

Jason Cole of the Bleacher Report spoke to two members of the 49ers staff and an NFL source who expect Jim Harbaugh to take the head coaching job at the University of Michigan.

“That’s what everybody on staff believes is going to happen this week,” one of the sources said. “Jim has figured out that his style is best-suited for the college game. His shtick works better with young guys who are gone after three or four years.

Michigan has reportedly extend Harbaugh a six-year, $48 million contract to take the job, which would make him the highest paid coach in college football.

  • Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports reported Friday night that Michigan brass and their search firm will be in San Francisco this weekend as part of their pursuit of Harbaugh.
  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media added that officials from the Raiders will also speak with Harbaugh about becoming their new head coach.

The Raiders have reportedly been “extremely cautious” about speaking to Harbaugh, as not to tamper with another team’s head coach.

It’s been clear for quite some time that Harbaugh will not be back with the 49ers next season, but it wasn’t until recently that reports began to indicate that Michigan had a legitimate shot of landing him as their next head coach.

Oakland and other interested teams could get involved, but there has been a lot of reports pointing to him going to Michigan.

We’ll have more updates regarding Harbaugh as the news is available.
