Josh Gordon To Be Suspended 10 Games

Update:

Browns WR Josh Gordon has been notified that he will be suspended 10 games once the new Drug Policy is finalized, according to Mary Kay Cabot.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk confirms that report and adds that Gordon is also subject to a two-game suspension for a DUI arrest. However, unlikely that the pending charges will be applied during the 2014 regular season, according to Florio.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Browns WR Josh Gordon will be suspended 10 games under the terms of the new NFL Drug Policy.

According to Cabot, Gordon isn’t getting any special treatment in this matter. Cabot mentions that this ruling would be in line with the new drug policy that has a fourth violation set at 10 games.

  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier in the day that as soon as a new drug policy is in place, the expectation is that Gordon will have his suspension reduced to eight games.
  • Ian Rapoport reported last night that the NFLPA has scheduled a vote for Friday regarding a new drug policy that will include all 32 players reps.

Momentum is building for the two sides to reach an agreement on a new drug policy that will removed suspensions for a number of players including: Wes Welker, Orlando Scandrick, Dion Jordan among others.

However, Albert Breer mentions that not all suspensions will be lifted. Instead, only the situations that fall in line with the rule changes will be adjusted.

Gordon’s suspension stems from a failed drug test during the 2013 season, which is why his ban is only being reduced while others will have their suspensions lifted by the league.

Even so, this is better news than what many expected just a few weeks ago.

We’ll post more updates here as the news is available.
