The Associated Press is reporting that a law enforcement official did in fact send copy of the Ray Rice tape to an NFL executive back in April.

The NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell have emphatically denied that anyone in their office ever received the tape.

According to the report, a person played a 12-second voicemail for The Associated Press from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived.

A female voice said thanks and added: “You’re right. It’s terrible.

The AP’s source said that they unauthorized to release the video. However, they they shared it unsolicited, because “they wanted the NFL to have it before deciding on Rice’s punishment.”

On top of that, the person mentioned that they sent a DVD copy of the security footage to an NFL office and included his contact information.

Goodell released a letter sent to all 32 teams on Wednesday in which he said he and the league asked law enforcement officials for the video.

You can read the full letter from Goodell here.

This situation is spiraling out of control for the Goodell and the league. We’ll have more updates as the news is available.
