Report: Lions Fire Jim Schwartz

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Detroit Lions have in fact fired HC Jim Schwartz.

Reports indicated that Schwartz was meeting with the team this morning and all signs from Sunday pointed towards a move being made.

Jay Glazer reports that GM Martin Mayhew will not be fired.

  • Ian Rapoport adds that Mayhew believes he will be “heavily involved” in the next coaching search

The Lions were in a great position to coast to the NFC North crown and somehow managed to finish third in the division. Schwartz’s record in five season with the Lions is 29-51 (.363), which is clearly worthy of being fired. Although, he did inherit an 0-16 team, which is about as bad of a situation as you can imagine.

Schwartz has surprisingly been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Browns head coaching job, but we’ll have to see if that holds water in the coming days. Many expect him to land on his feet somewhere and it would not be all that shocking to see him reunite with Jeff Fisher in St. Louis.

We’ll have more updates posted here as the news is available.
