Report: LSU’s Zach Mettenberger The Vikings “Signal Caller Of Choice”

Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net reports that LSU QB Zach Mettenberger is the Vikings “signal caller of choice.”

  • Pauline adds that sources have told him that Mettenberger is a “perfect fit” in Vikings’ OC Norv Turner’s system.
  • According to Pauline, Mettenberger has had no issues sprinting or rolling out of the pocket in recent weeks.

Pauline previously reported that the Vikings are “heavily leaning” towards selecting Mettenberger in the second round, while “looking” to grab a linebacker in the first round.

Minnesota holds the No. 8 overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and many have projected that they could look to take a quarterback in that spot. However, recent buzz has mentioned that they could instead target the best available player and look to address the quarterback position in the middle rounds.

The Vikings re-signed veteran QB Matt Cassel this offseason and all indications are that they intend to enter the season with him as their starter.

Mettenberger unfortunately suffered an ACL and MCL tear in his knee last season, but there is at least some positive signs that he should be fine moving forward. LSU’s Pro Day is next week.

The Arizona Cardinals have also come up as a team who could have interest in Mettenberger in round two.
