Report: Marcus Mariota’s Camp Believes Chargers & Eagles Are Trying To Trade Up For Him

ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio (via Pro Football Talk) reports that members of Oregon QB Marcus Mariota’s camp believe the Chargers and Eagles are both attempting to trade up for him in this year’s draft.

All indications remain that any team looking to come away from the first round with the Heisman Trophy winner would likely have to up to No. 2 overall to get him.

Jeff Darlington reported earlier in the day that the Titans aren’t just taking calls regarding the No. 2 overall pick — they’re making calls too.

According to Darlington, the Titans want to be inside the top 16 or 17 picks to ensure that they get an impact player. Darlington mentions that if the Eagles were to get involved they would need to get creative.

The trade activity for the No. 2 overall pick has reportedly been minimal up to this point, but that is expected to change as the day plays out, per Darlington.

The Browns and Jets are reportedly considering the possibly of moving up for Mariota.

If the Chargers are willing to trade Philip Rivers, which they’re reportedly reluctant to do, you would have to think that they would be able to push the other teams out for Mariota.

As for the Eagles, they appear to be a difficult spot at No. 20 given the report that Tennessee would prefer to remain in the Top 16 or 17 picks. On top of that, trading QB Sam Bradford may not be the solution considering that he’s in the final year of his contract and isn’t interested in signing an extension at this point in time.

We’ll have more updates regarding teams possibly trading up for Mariota as the news is available.
