Report: Marshawn Lynch Has Expressed Interest In Playing For Patriots If Talks Break Down With Raiders

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald is reporting that retired RB Marshawn Lynch has privately expressed interest in playing for the Patriots if talks break off with the Raiders in the coming weeks.

  • According to Howe, Lynch joining the Patriots may be viewed as a long shot, but the sentiment exists.

Prior reports have said that Lynch has his sights set on playing for only the Raiders, so this comes as a bit of surprise. The Raiders recently hosted Lynch for a visit to the team’s facility and he reportedly told them that he intends to play in 2017.

As of now, he still has yet to file for reinstatement to the NFL and there’s some question as to whether the Seahawks would release or trade him to the Patriots.

New England hosted Adrian Peterson for a visit and put him through a workout and still have an offer on the table for LeGarrette Blount, so they’re clearly in the market for a big running back. Lynch would at least fit this mold of running back.

Lynch, 29, has two years remaining on his three-year, $31 million contract that included $12 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $9 million and $7 million over the final two years of the agreement.

During his career, Lynch rushed for 9,112 yards rushing on 2,144 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with 252 receptions for 1,979 yards receiving and 83 total touchdowns for the Seahawks and Bills.

Lynch is a five-time Pro Bowler and made one first-team All-Pro team in 2012. He also helped the Seahawks win a Super Bowl in 2013.

We’ll have more regarding Lynch and the Raiders as the news is available.
