Report: Montreal Alouettes Have Reached Out To Rookie DE Michael Sam

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that the Montreal Alouettes have reached out to seventh-round pick DE Michael Sam about possibly signing with them, but there’s currently no word regarding him playing in the CFL.

  • Rapoport adds that the Alouettes hold the rights to Sam.

St. Louis has already announced their practice squad signings and Sam is not among the players on the squad.

He recorded three sacks during the preseason, and said that he’s confident he can play in the NFL.

During his four years at Missouri, Sam recorded 111 tackles, 32.5 sacks, two interceptions, and five forced fumbles.

Mike Silver of the NFL Network reports that the Rams will not be signing rookie DE Michael Sam to their practice and instead are expected to use those spots on other positions.

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that, as of now, Rams seventh-round pick Michael Sam has not signed to an NFL practice squad since he cleared waivers earlier today.

  • Sam did meet with Rams HC Jeff Fisher earlier today, but this was planned interview, according to Jim Thomas.
  • Jason La Canfora mentions that Sam is “hardly a guarantee” to end up on St. Louis’ practice squad given the depth they have at the position.

Sam was among the Rams’ final roster cuts on Saturday after they elected to go with undrafted rookie Ethan Westbrooks as the last defensive lineman on their roster.

    • Exactly. The guy was a novelty at first, but nobody really cares at this point. He’s just another guy trying to make the line-up. As you said, “lotsa guys got cut.”
