Report: Multiple Teams Have Interest In Ray Rice

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, a number NFL teams are doing their research on former Ravens RB Ray Rice regarding the idea of possibly signing him to a contract in the second-half of the season.

Rice would need to have his suspension lifted following his appeal that was filed by the NFLPA on Tuesday.

Cole mentions that a team without an obvious need at running back has informed him that they are putting together a plan to possible bring him in if they end up dealing with problems at the running back position.

Cole admits that there is no guarantee that Rice will be allowed to play this season. However, Cole believes the interest in Rice could be an indication that he’ll be back in the league next year.

While I’m sure teams have at least broached the topic behind closed doors, it’s hard to imagine any team showing interest in Rice in the coming weeks based on the backlash that would come from the public and media about allowing him to return this season.

The NFL has already announced that Rice will not be reinstated during his appeal, which is something that other players have been allowed to do in the past. Surely, the league doesn’t want to exasperate the situation further now that they have already had to commission an investigation into their handling of the Ray Rice case.

We’ll have more updates regarding Rice as the news is available.
