Report: New Drug Policy Rules Will Apply To Players Suspended In 2014, Josh Gordon’s Case More Complicated

Ian Rapoport and Albert Breer of the NFL Network are reporting that a new drug policy would apply new standards to retroactive suspensions already being served by NFL players.

According to Rapoport, players suspended during the 2014 league would now be subject to the new standards included in the policy. Although, each case would reportedly be reviewed if the deal ends up being approved.

This is good news for players like Broncos WR Wes Welker and Cowboys CB Orlando Scandrick seeing as their violations came within the 2014 league year. However, Rapopoort adds that Browns WR Josh Gordon‘s situation is “more complicated.

Gordon’s suspension stems from a failed drug test during the 2013 season, so Rapoport mentions that we’ll have to wait and see regarding his situation.

  • Breer reports that the two areas that remain unresolved hGH testing protocol and neutral arbitration.
  • The NFL has reportedly dropped their request for immediate discipline upon players being arrested for DUI’s.

Player reps will reportedly spend the next 24 hours reviewing details regarding the remaining drug policy issues, so we should know more about the situation later in the day.
