Report: NFL Could Add 15-Yard Penalties & Ejections For Racial Slurs

According to John Wooten of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, the NFL competition committee could enact a new rule that would make the use of the N-word on the field an automatic 15-yard penalty with a second infraction resulting in an ejection from the game.

“I will be totally shocked if the competition committee does not uphold us on what we’re trying to do,” Wooten said, via Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. “We want this word to be policed from the parking lot to the equipment room to the locker room. Secretaries, PR people, whoever, we want it eliminated completely and want it policed everywhere.”

La Canfora reports that league sources confirmed that they view “respect” among teammates as a priority for their players. This comes just a week after the Ted Wells report was released regarding the Jonathan Martin-Richie Incognito situation in Miami.

We’ll have to see if this holds up at next month’s owner’s meeting, but it sounds like this could be one of the easier measures currently in consideration to be passed.
