Report: NFL & NFLPA Have Begun Talks To Raise Marijuana Test Levels

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reports that the NFL Players Association have recently begun formal talks with the NFL about raising the marijuana test levels.

  • Garafolo adds that the NFL is reportedly willing to discuss the topic, but the two sides have yet to reach any kind of agreement.
  • According to Garafolo, the players associate just recently proposed the idea.

The last note is particularly interesting seeing as Josh Gordon has been facing a year-long suspension for months now, despite the fact that his sample that contained just 15 nanograms would not have triggered a positive test in other sports leagues.

Garafolo mentions that if the league and players association worked through some of their issues with the current drug policy, Gordon wouldn’t have come close to testing positive for marijuana.

Gordon is now out for the season and is not allowed to be at any Browns facility while he’s suspended.

If the league and the players association can figure out a few sticking points such as HGH testing and the fact that Roger Goodell personally handles appeals cases, the belief is that most of the other issues could be worked out rather quickly.

We’ll have to see any changes are made in the coming months or if this is something that carries over into the offseason.
