Report: NFL “Strongly Considering” Moving The Pro Bowl To Arizona

The NFL has made a habit of tinkering with the Pro Bowl in an effort to generate revenue and interest in the annual game.

In what could be its next effort, Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that a league source said that the NFL is “strongly considering” moving the Pro Bowl from Hawaii to Arizona next year to raise the profile of the event, as well as revenue.

Arizona is the site of next year’s Super Bowl, a factor that the league is clearly attempting to capitalize on.  The Pro Bowl would likely receive some added attention from the large media presence that will be assembling in Arizona.

Should the NFL make the change, it will be interesting to see how the players respond.  The NFL perpetually deals with attendance problems regarding some of its best players, despite the free vacation to Hawaii.  The league will have to consider whether changing the location will result in an even greater number of players passing on the game if the allure of Hawaii is removed from the equation.
