Report: NFL Teams Already Looking To Trade Out Of The First Round

According to Jason Cole of the National Football Post, NFL teams have already begun to discuss potential draft trades during Senior Bowl week.

Cole mentions that “several teams” have shown interest in trading down in the hope of obtaining addition second and third-round picks due to the fact that this is considered to be one of the deepest draft pools in several years.

You’re going to see a lot of players who would normally be second-round picks end up in the third round. Same goes for the mid- to late-first round picks ending up in the second round,” a team executive told Cole.

Another executive specifically mentioned that the Jaguars could be a team to watch given that they are clearly in rebuilding mode right now and could use some additional selections to fill out their roster.

“If you’re in a rebuilding mode, I think it would be really tempting to move back to pick up a couple of extra picks,” said the executive.

However, the Jaguars have an obvious need at quarterback, which makes it seem unlikely that they would trade out of the No. 3 spot to address other positions in the later rounds.

Cole mentions that the Rams are another team looking to move down from No. 2 overall, which is something they’ve said publicly in recent weeks.

  1. Rams need to keep no.2 pick and get either Bridgewater or Manziel. They will never be able to match Seattle’s success unless they first get the right signal caller under center. And that is clearly not Sam Bradford. Going forward with him for another season will only delay progress. And you can now add the fact that he is coming off a serious injury. Fischer’s loyalty to his QB is at this point, foolhardy. So no trade for the Rams and bring in a young mobile and strong armed QB.
