Report: Redskins Sign LB Nick Barnett

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that sources have informed him that the Redskins have signed LB Nick Barnett to a one-year deal.

  • Rapoport adds that Washington put Barnett through “extensive physical work” to make sure his knee was good shape.

Barnett, 32, has not found any interest on the open market, so it seems unlikely that the Redskins would guarantee him a roster spot.

Last year, Pro Football Focus graded Barnett as the No. 9 best 4-3 outside linebacker. According to their ratings, Barnett was very solid against the run, but clearly struggled to provide any pass rush.

Washington currently has London Fletcher as their starting inside linebacker, but there are some obvious concerns with him being that he’s 38-years-old and has plenty of mileage. Behind him, the Redskins have Perry Riley and Brian Kehl so it makes for them to see what Barnett can offer during training camp.

We had Barnett listed as the No. 12 player in our Best Available Free Agents list.
