Report: Packers Have Discussed A Three-Year Deal With Steven Jackson

Update:

Rob Demovsky reports that the Packers have discussed a three-year deal with free agent RB Steven Jackson.

Demovsky adds all he’s told to this point is that the Packers and Jackson are “talking.”

Green Bay appears to be the clear favorites at this point, but things can change quickly, as the Packers aren’t known for overpaying free agents.

We have Jackson listed as the No. 19 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

Update:

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports although the Packers did contact the agent for free agent RB Steven Jackson, they aren’t close to signing him.

Green Bay is reportedly trying to get the best deal possible and is unwilling to get caught up in a bidding war with the Falcons.

Silverstein mentions that Atlanta could be Jackson’s “preference.”

The Packers surprisingly scheduled a visit with free agent running back Peyton Hillis, so they’re prepared to consider all of their options at this point in time.

Update:

Bill Huber reports that a source who spoke with the Rams has informed him that RB Steven Jackson is “likely” to sign with the Packers.

Other reports have indicated that the Packers are serious about Jackson, but their interest in WR Greg Jennings could leave them in a difficult spot, assuming of course that they still intend to lockup QB Aaron Rodgers and possibly even OLB Clay Matthews.

The Falcons could still get involved at some point.

Update:

Mike Garafolo reports that the Packers have spoken to Steven Jackson‘s agent, but he’s not getting the sense “there’s a great push.

The Packers likely checked in and informed him of how much they’re willing to spend. Green Bay tends to be really quiet during free agency, so signing Jackson would be a major move for Ted Thompson.

—————–

According to Pro Football Talk the Packers are “the current leaders” to sign free agent RB Steven Jackson.

A previous report indicated that the Falcons were already aggressively pursuing Jackson as well.

Jackson, 29, voided his contract from the Rams last week which made him an unrestricted free agent.  Jackson went on record saying that he could still be a “bell cow” and carry the load for an NFL team.  The Packers, meanwhile, have had notable issues with the running game the past two seasons, so it makes sense to see them target an upgrade like Jackson.
