Report: Doctors Believe Jermichael Finley Will Play Again, Could Be Placed On IR

Update:

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that Packers TE Jermichael Finley should be released from hospital in next 24 hours.

  • Werder adds that doctors believe he can play again, but there’s no idea of when that will be.
  • Werder mentions that it wouldn’t be surprising to see Green Bay place him on season-ending injured reserve sometime this week.

Finley reportedly suffered a bruised spinal cord, which is an injury that has cost some NFL players their careers. Green Bay has maintained that they are not focused on Finley returning to game-action, so it is possible that they will place him on injured reserve and add a free agent this week.

We’ll have more as the news is available.

According to ESPN.com, Packers TE Jermichael Finley suffered a bruised spinal cord in his neck.

Further tests continues to show “encouraging signs” regarding Finley’s overall condition, but his return remains “indefinite.” Finley is expected to seek more medical opinions now that he’s out of ICU.

The Packers have said that Finley’s return to football is “obviously secondary” to his future health.

It looks like we won’t no whether or not Finley will be able to return this season until a few weeks from now once he’s met with numerous doctors and has a better idea of what’s best for him moving forward.

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that Packers TE Jermichael Finley isn’t expected to require neck surgery following a very concerning hit he took during Sunday’s win over the Browns.

  • Pelissero adds that it could be weeks before the Packers know if Finley can play again this season.

Finley has been in intensive care unit at the hospital since he was stretchered off the field on Sunday. He has reportedly regained almost all movement in his extremities, and tests on his neck have comeback negative. The fact that he may not require surgery is probably the most encouraging bit news relating to him ever playing football again.

You just hate to see this kind of injury happen to any player. Football is a great sport, but it’s hits like these that make you realize the kinds of risks that are being taken by these players. I wish Finley the best in his recover.

We’ll have more as the news is available.
