Report: Packers Sign QB Vince Young

Update:

Josina Anderson reports that the Packers have signed QB Vince Young to a one-year deal.

Young, 30, has not played for an NFL team since the 2011 season when he was with the Buffalo Bills during their training camp. Young is reportedly in great shape and the Packers had interest in Young as early as a few months ago.

There has been a lot made of the Packers backup quarterback situation in recent years. Green Bay currently has Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman as the backups to Aaron Rodgers.

It’s worth noting that Green Bay’s first two opponents are the 49ers and Redskins, both of whom make use of the read-option. This move could not only provide some additional competition for the No. 2 job, but may also help them to prepare for mobile quarterbacks. This could be overstating Young’s current ability to think that he could replicate Colin Kaepernick or Robert Griffin III even remotely.
