Report: Panthers Still Working On A Long-Term Extension For DE Greg Hardy

Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that the Carolina Panthers remain in contract talks with free agent DE Greg Hardy regarding a long-term contract extension.

  • Person mentions that the Panthers do have  a “trump card” in contract talks in the form of a franchise tag.

Bill Voth, citing a league source, reported on Tueday that the Carolina Panthers are preparing to franchise DE Greg Hardy in the coming weeks.

Person adds that Carolina recently met with Hardy’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to discuss a new contract, but negotiations are still ongoing at this point.

Hardy, 25, is widely expected to be targeting massive contract that could come close to Charles Johnson‘s six-year, $78 million deal.

Should the Panthers elect to franchise Hardy, it would run them close to $12.6 million guaranteed next season.

Hardy will be a popular topic in the coming days given that the franchise tag deadline is fast approaching.

We have Hardy listed as the No. 2 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
