Report: Patriots Have Discussed An Extension With NT Vince Wilfork

Albert Breer of the NFL Network reports that the Patriots and NT Vince Wilfork have discussed a contract extension this offseason.

  • However, Breer adds that the two sides are not close to reaching an agreement at this point in time.

Wilfork, 32, is coming off of an Achilles’ injury and is entering the final year of his five-year, $40 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed.

His cap figure for the 2014 season sits at $11.6 million, and New England would free up $8 million in cap space by releasing, according to OverTheCap.com.

The Patriots currently do not have a replacement for Wilfork on their roster and they just released Isaac Sopoaga earlier today. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were able to get a contract extension worked at some point this offseason.
