Patriots To Evaluate Jimmy Garroppolo’s Shoulder Before Determining Starting QB

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports the Patriots plan to evaluate Jimmy Garoppolo’s shoulder this morning before deciding to start either him or Jacoby Brissett.

  • Mike Garafolo adds that Garoppolo will have to prove he’s got enough strength in his shoulder to drive the ball in order to play today against the Bills.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Patriots do not expect to know who will be their starting quarterback for Week 4’s game against the Bills until pre-game warmups.

A report from earlier said that Jimmy Garoppolo was likely to get the start, but it sounds like there’s still a chance they could go with Jacoby Brissett, depending on how they look tomorrow.

According to Jason La Canfora, the Patriots are still determining whether to start QB Jimmy Garoppolo on Sunday and their decision could come down to who performs best during pre-game workouts.

Kirk Minihane of WEEI is reporting that the Patriots will start QB Jimmy Garoppolo on Sunday against the Bills.

  • Yesterday, Mike Giardi of CSN New England reported that Garoppolo was “making good strides” and the “arrow is pointing in the right direction” for him to play in Week 4.
  • A few days ago, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Patriots are “all but certain” to have Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett both available for their Week 4 matchup.

New England did not bring in any quarterbacks for workouts this week, which is clearly a good sign that they expect their guys to suit up.

The Patriots need to get through this game before Tom Brady returns from suspension.

Garoppolo, 24, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3,483,898 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $686,718 for the 2016 season.

This season, Garoppolo has completed 42 of 59 passing attempts for 496 yards and four touchdowns for the Patriots over the course of two games.
