Steelers Sign WR Plaxico Burress & QB Brian Hoyer

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Steelers “plan” to sign free agent WR Plaxico Burress following his workout earlier in the day.

Jason La Canfora reports that the Steelers are also expected to sign free agent QB Brian Hoyer who will serve as the team’s backup to Charlie Batch.

Jerricho Cotchery was diagnosed with multiple broken ribs, so he’s out indefinitely. Antonio Brown is expected to miss another game because of an ankle injury, so there’s a good chance that Burress could be in for a reasonable workload this weekend.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that free agent WR Plaxico Burress is on his way to Pittsburgh to take a physical.

Schefter adds that the Steelers’ lack of depth at receiver could lead them to sign the veteran receiver, despite the fact that he hasn’t drawn much any interest for a number of months now.

Jerricho Cotchery got hurt during Sunday’s loss to Baltimore and Antonio Brown is expected to miss another week because of an ankle injury, so it seems realistic that Burress could be signed, assuming he passes the physical.
